PROGRAM
Our Portal Zion program offers many benefits to homeschooling parents. First, we provide a Christian education alternative in a safe and secure environment while students acquire knowledge and interact with their classmates two days a week. Today, the safety and respect that existed in public schools are no longer present, and from an early age, our children are harmed by exposure to age-inappropriate, obscene, and explicit content and gender ideology. There are numerous testimonies to the positive changes families have seen in their children after removing them from the public school system and incorporating them into our homeschooling program.
The first thing we do when students arrive at our program is assess them with a placement test in math and English classes to determine their proficiency level and whether they have any learning gaps that need to be addressed. To work with them individually, strengthening their areas of need, we maintain a reasonable class size. Also, each student works at their own pace and level. This is very positive because those who want to get ahead can do so, and those who need more time to fully master a subject can take the time they need to learn it thoroughly.
We understand that educating our children academically can be overwhelming and burdensome, so our program offers a helping hand throughout the process from the beginning to graduation day. Even though the parents are the primary educators of their own children we put forward a structure that includes excellent suggested Christian curriculums for each core class, as well as other elective classes such as Spanish as a Second Language, piano lessons, guitar lessons, art classes, and more. All the teachers are committed parents with passion and determination where their primary goal is to model and teach our students about our Lord Jesus. For this reason, the first thing we do every Tuesday and Thursday is a time of prayer, worship, and teaching from the Word of God. Then, each group heads to their individual classes during the corresponding period, transitioning from class to class until they complete each day’s courses. In addition, every year we organize a science fair, and each student prepares their own project. After researching and testing what they’ve learned, they share it with their parents and classmates. This way, students develop confidence in public speaking.
When students reach high school, we suggest parents enroll them annually in Homelife Academy, which provides a credit history and annual transcript review so parents can ensure their child is on track to graduate. Their official transcripts and diplomas have been accepted throughout the United States and abroad. This way, each parent will receive their child’s transcript and have the benefit of having it sent directly to the selected college or university, avoiding the rigorous process of preparing for it themselves. From experience, homeschooled students are highly regarded when applying to universities and colleges because they recognize that they have been well prepared and because they achieve high scores on the entrance exams.
Finally, Portal Zion offers convenient and affordable prices. We also provide discounts for families with more than one child enrolled and even have scholarships for families in need—whatever it takes to help more families with their children’s education. Our goal is to instruct children in all the wisdom that comes from above and teach them the Lord’s way for their lives as they learn in Portal Zion.
